Fall is a beautiful time of year. The leaves are gorgeous, it smells great, and it's Football season! My husband and three boys love Football. They watch their weekly games, and Sunday's after church is the day they spend the day together watching football. So, I'm excited to share with you and them about a new movie coming out November 13, 2015. My All American.
This inspirational true story is based on Freddie Jo Steinmark. Freddie is deemed too small by usual athletic standards, but playing football is what Freddie wants to do most in the world. Freddie father trains him and when the time comes for him to get noticed he puts fight into the game. This gets him noticed by Darrell Royal, one of the only legendary University of Texas coach.
Freddie gets a scholarship for a chance to play for the Longhorns. He heads to Austin, determined to make the team. Along side old friend Bobby Mitchell and new friend James Street. The three rise to the occasion, giving the Longhorns a real chance to turn the team around.Just when Freddie is reveling in success, being a standout player on the national - title 1969 winning team, he suffers an injury. An injury that leads to a shocking diagnoses and the biggest challenge Freddie will ever face.
Tragically, Freddie 's career is cut short. A visit to the hospital for a bone bruise and the doctors discovered a cancerous tumor in his leg. His cancer was discovered just after the team beat the Arkansas Razorback to win the title. Freddie coached the teams freshman defense and became an inspiration to cancer sufferers before the cancer took his life.
This film will also focus on football coach Darrell Royal who guided the Longhorns to three national titles in his twenty year tenure and never had a losing season. Darrell and Freddie developed a special bond.
My All American is directed and written by Angelo Pizzo, who is also a writer and producer of two other well known sports films Hoosier in 1986 and Rude in 1993. The movie was filmed in Austin, Texas, from May to July 2014.
This is a story of courage, and the strength of a champion when faced with diversity. It seems so much more than just football, so even if football is not your thing I think there is a beautiful story here.
