Missing Monday: Samuel Boehlke

Samuel Boehlke, also known as Sammy was 8 years old at the time of his disappearance. He was a Caucasian male,  who was 4'08" tall and 85 pounds. He had light brown hair, brown eyes. Sammy has a mole under his right ear and on the left side of his throat.

Samuel disappeared from Cleet Wood Cove, Crater Lake National Park in Oregon on October 14, He was last seen around 4:00 pm wearing a long sleeved black and green striped shirt, cargo pants, red Suede shoes, and a blue winter jacket.

Sammy has Asperger's Syndrome on the Autism Spectrum. He is described to have a passionate personality with a bit of stubbornness. This manifested itself into a fear of loud noises and bright lights. This complicated the search and rescue process. More than 200 search and rescue workers arrived after the disappearance but they could not use air horns or whistles.

Sammy and his father were playing a game of tag on a cinder slope. Darkness was approaching and Kenneth Boehlke, 48, Samuel's father walked a short distance back to their car, preparing to return to their rented cabin near Diamond lake. Sammy had stayed on the slope refusing to come down. Kenneth had to give chase. Sammy likely thought this to be a game kept running and stayed 50 feet ahead of his father. Samuel disappeared over the top of a slope. When Kenneth reached the top Sammy was no where in sight. A passing motorist had later told investigators that he saw Sammy running towards the woods.

The search and rescue process consisted of more than 200 people who combed 6 Sq. miles. For 7 days searchers used helicopters, dogs, heat sensing cameras but no trace of Samuel Boehlke has ever been found.

Anyone with information is urged to call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1800-the lost Or Klamath County Sheriff's Office 541-883-7479.

As always I leave this case, Samuel Boehlke, his family and anyone else affected by this tragedy with the upmost respect. My prayers that one day by spreading awareness answers may be found for cases such as Samuel's. It's important that as many as possible, no matter how big or small lend to the light that will lead Sammy and others like him home again.

  1. oh dear,,bless his heart,,i pray that they find him safe and sound
