Vivitar Air Defender X Camera Drone w/Wi-Fi an Awesome Teen Gift

We received a sample in exchange for a honest an unbiased review.

I have three teenage boys who have been excited about owning their own drones since their uncle brought one on his last visit with us. I could only imagine while watching them fly it up and down our street how costly just one of them would be. Imagine the excitement when we learned about the Vivitar Air Defender X Camera Drone w/Wi-Fi . This is an affordable Drone that is not a lot different from other more expensive drones.

The drone from Vivitar is not like the larger drone the boys played with over the summer, but I do feel its much more appropriate for them to start off with. It is lightweight and easy to fly. They seem to be having an easy time flying it and having tons of fun. It definitely has their approval.

My oldest son explained some things to me about the drone, as I've never used one until now. Yes, I might as well admit I've had some fun with it too. My son showed me how it was equipped with a 16.1 MP camera. This allows videos and images to stream to a smartphone when it connects to the drone using WiFi. It comes with two batteries which allows 20 minutes of flight time and a range of about 200 meters.

If your flying this drone in the evening time, towards dark it is very easy to spot. It is wrapped in 64 individual LED lights. I'm starting to think I may need my own drone as it has been fun playing with this one. I'm also impressed with the features for such an affordable price.

The drone is surprisingly fast. It took me and my youngest son a little while to get the hang of navigating it. There is a switch on the Vivitar Air Defe nder X Camera Drone w/Wi-Fi The drone is surprisingly fast. It took me and my youngest son a little while to get the hang of navigating it. There is a switch on the drone that limits the speed to 30,60 and 100% speed. The remote is easy to figure out. The drone can also connect to an Android or iOS device using an app. If you chose to do this you would not use the remote. Actually I quite like this. You can activate the camera and see the drones eye view right on the mobile device. This has been awesome for capturing pictures and videos.

It took a little while to charge up the batteries. Using the proprietary USB cable it takes about a couple hours to charge one of the batteries. We like to charge up both batteries before taking it outside.

Inside the box of the Air Defender we found a full featured remote control with a smartphone holder, two rechargeable batteries for the drone, a USB recharging cable, a set of AA batteries for the remote and the Air Defender.

We really are having a fun time with this drone. I guess our only complaint is that sometimes we have to have patience waiting for the batteries to recharge. The price is great for the features and technology. This would make a great gift idea for the holidays.
