Missing Monday: James Martin Roberts

James Martin Roberts who primarily goes by his middle name Martin Roberts was just 19 years old when he vanished April 21, 2016 from the campus of App State in Boone, North Carolina.

Martin is a white male 5"10" 150 lbs. He had brown hair and blue eyes. He had no distinctive facial hair. Martin had a tattoo on his left forearm of mountains, he had another tattoo on his chest of a Bob Marley quote "Don't gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver or gold. Martin has no known serious health conditions or allergies. He also has no drug addictions or mental illnesses.

The last time Martin was seen he was wearing khaki shorts, a black 3/4 sleeve shirt made out of windbreaker material, White Socks and gray shoes that were possibly New Balance. He was also last seen wearing a white visor style hat. Martin also had a small backpack with him the last time he was seen. I actually think the campus had come across surveillance of Martin on campus the last time he was seen.

Martin was just returning to App State after taking a little time off. The year before it is said that Martin had been a full time student but he may have partied frequently and his grades may have suffered. Martin along with his family decided that a little time off to clear his mind was what he needed.

He was doing well during the 6 months he took off. He was working and taking online classes in preparation for returning to App the next semester as a full time student. Martin had also put a deposit down on an apartment for the Fall 2016 semester.

The last confirmed sighting of Martin was at around noon on April 21, 2016. He was last seen at the location of the Appalcart bus stop at 111 Rivers Street, this is close to the Appalachian State Convocation Center. He was talking to a friend who has since been questioned and stated nothing was off about their conversation. Martin had spoke about returning to school.

Martin's apartment was off of King Street in Boone, N.C. He did not have access to a personal vehicle or bicycle at the time of his disappearance. He also did not take his cellphone, tablet or laptop with him. There are reports that his cellphone was dead. There has been no activity on his email accounts or social media accounts. He does not have his passport with him.

Martin left a vague letter explaining why he felt the need to disappear. However, he did not mention where he was going or what his intentions were. This letter has never been released to the public, Martin's father John shared a little bit of the jist with people. Martin felt he had disappointed people, his parents. He felt he had not taken advantage of the help they provided him.

The Boone police department has conducted interviews with Martin's apartment mates, friends and fraternity brothers on several occasions. They were able to put the Susan's law into affect on this case essentially meaning if the missing person is 18, 19, or 20 they could do an Amber Alert and use those resources to help locate the missing person.

Light and love to James' loved ones, may he be found safe.

  1. I recently saw this on a news show. I hope they find him safe and sound. It sounds like there's hope he just needed time to himself.
